When My Memories Are Erased

I had a dream last night.

Someone came and told me.

Your memories will all be erased in a minute.

I was all calm and quiet.

For a while, I paused and asked him:

“May I have a small exception?”

And I asked him:

“If your memories would be erased,

what will you do, sir? “

He told me he had no memories,

And that’s why he was never in pain and never in love,

Never in awe and never being down.

Oh, how odd.

And what a plain life experience to have.

He looked at me emotionlessly.

Hence I continued to talk:

“Me?

I, I will smile and embrace the future.

yet will beg the past with my beloved to stay.”

My time with Don, every minute we spend together shall remain.

Don, I want our memories to stay, to be carved and to be remembered.

So that I can still recognize you when we are 80 years old.

So that I know you sleep better on that side of bed.

So that I remember you love to be hugged in the morning once I wake up by you.

So that I remember you need your glasses to read books and the light to read the menu,

Because ordering is an art and you know it better than me.

And you love listening to your books.

And you don’t like you books to be marked.

Occasionally in pencils only.

And you don’t like to have the house kept messy.

So that I remember you need a good cup of espresso sometimes.

Most importantly, I want to keep all the memories with you.

Good or bad.

Because that’s who we are and how we grow into a couple from two individuals.

And now, when it’s all looked back from this future point,

there is no such memories as bad.

It’s all part of our journey.

When we fought and we laughed.

When we argued and we hugged.

when we cooked as a team and cleaned the house.

If these are too much to ask,

I certainly understand that there you have your rules.

I’ll keep your rules, emotionless man.

And write it down in my own memories:

“That I love you and I will love you, Don

even when my memories are erased.”
